Weekly photo challenge: everyday life

September 18, 2012 § Leave a comment

This week’s photo challenge is everyday life. And I nearly missed it, because of a few computer-less days. The task was to walk your neighbourhood and politely take photos of everyday life.

So, again, photos from one of my favourite spots: Lyall Bay Beach in Wellington. This is also a dog off-leash beach, so many of my dog and human friends hang out there a lot.

And even on a late afternoon, late in winter, and getting dark it is a popular spot for some very everyday Wellington activities: surfing, walking (with or without dog), eating fish’n chips … all done with the determined and well-trained skill to ignore the temperatures, or, more often than not, wind speeds. In Wellington you don’t wait until the weather is good. You just do your outdoor activities, no matter what.

There aren’t all that many capital cities where surfing is an everyday activity. Quite often here, people just walk across the streets to the various beaches, surfboards under their arms, swaying slightly with the wind.
